Marathon Key, Florida
The Florida Keys are one of the most diverse fishing destinations in the world., offering the near shore shallow flats, FL bay, offshore reefs and offshore blue water. All of the great fishing areas are located within close proximity to the island chain. As the seasons change, so does the target species. Spring/Summer is the time to catch the mighty Tarpon. Captain Jack Callion and Captain John Callion have them dialed in knowing where and when to be in the right place at the right time! The average size of these majestic migratory fish is mind boggling, ranging anywhere from 75-200 lbs.
We practice catch and release on all tarpon catches and refuse to use lip gaffs with no exception. We will do everything in our power for you to get a picture of your catch without harming this valuable resource. Tarpon can live to at least 60 years of age and must be handled with care so their is no post release mortality.
During the fall/winter season using light tackle, we target fish on wrecks and live bottom in FL Bay and the Atlantic Ocean side of the keys. On any given day its not uncommon to catch 10 different species of fish such as a variety of groupers, snappers, cobias, sailfish, dolphin, kingfish, wahoo, cero mackerel, Spanish mackerels, bluefish, a variety of jacks, sharks, sea trout, pompano, barracuda – the list goes on! On every trip it is our goal for our clients to experience what we like to call maximum angler participation in every aspect of the fishing day. This includes tying knots, bait rigging, proper hooking and fighting techniques to proper release. We are happy to fillet any eating fish for you to enjoy here and take home. Come join us for an exotic fishing adventure in the good ole USA!
